13 Who was Montezuma II? Aztec Ruler from 1500 to 1520. Conquered by Cortes Believed that Cortes was a god-like being and welcomed Cortes into the city. Cortes took Montezuma hostage and ruled for some time while Montezuma was a prisoner in his palace. 1520- fight broke out and Montezuma was killed by the Spanish

26 How did Pizarro overtake the Inca? Weapons Guns Cannons The Incans knew nothing about the Spanish weapons. Atahualpa was captured and executed in 1533. This was the end of the Inca empire.

27 Pizarro was named viceroy (governor) over the these lands. Settlements in Peru began to grow. Pizarro founded the city of Lima, grew wealthy, but was killed in an attack on his palace.
