7 CSC 520 Internet of Things Spring 2015 Trashcan sensor: A simple sensor that can retrofit existing trashcans to alert when full. Could also include temp sensor. Example in production here. here Trail sensor: A sensor to measure usage of trails. Can be placed on existing signage at trailhead. Could also include weather information. We have done this in the past with infrared sensors for point in time counts. Would like to explore integration with an open source mobile application for trails, OpenTrails, that the City will soon be publishing data to. The idea would be to have usage stats on the trails show up in the app.OpenTrails Road sensor: Leverage a smartphone or separate sensor to collect vibration information while driving to better assess road conditions. Would want build on StreetBump from the City of Boston.StreetBump Multi-function city sensor: Single sensor to collect a variety of inputs such as air quality, ambient noise levels and maybe more.
