By: Joe Birmingham Call of Duty!! Facebook !! Twitter!! Cooperative Learning in 4th Period Social Studies Class?!?!

How can Teachers combine Cooperative learning, the internet, and classroom content together? SIMPLY COMBINE ALL THREE Students are already online EVERYDAY! Students play games online EVERYDAY! Students are on Social sites like Facebook EVERDAY! So why do teachers fight it?!

So How Do We Use the Internet? Have students create personal WebPages where they can post all their assigned work, resources, alternate texts, articles, games, and other educational findings on the internet. This creates a cooperative learning social group where finding resources and materials is just a click away. Almost like FACEBOOK or Twitter! “WOAH!!! LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!” “WOW!!” “YOU BETTER ADD THAT TO THE WESTERN CIV. WEBPAGE!!”

This All Sounds Familiar… A social cooperative learning site that members of a class can interact, share, and edit work…. Sounds a lot like SAKAI… Or Google docs…. Or even WIKISPACES!! USED BY OUR OWN DR. KERN!! So why aren't teachers using them in high schools!

Implications For Teachers The internet is present in our everyday lives Most students in high school and middle school use the internet everyday Use students familiarity with the internet to your advantage.
