2 Alliteration: the repeating of the beginning consonant sounds (all letters other than “a”, “e”, “i”, “o”, & “u”) Ex: She sells sea shells by the sea shore.

3 Hyperbole: an intentionally exaggerated figure of speech for emphasis or effect (e.g. “this book weighs a ton” or “my stock is down and out”) or

4 Metaphor: when a term or phrase is applied to something to which it’s not literally, applicable in order to suggest a resemblance

5 Onomatopoeia: the use of w0rds like what they mean (e.g. Buzz or Purr)

6 Personification: figurative language in which nonhuman things or are represented as having human qualities

7 Simile: a figure of speech in which two essentially unlike things compared. Most similes are often in phrase introduced by the word “like” or “as” (e.g. “she is like a rose”)

8 Assonance: the use of the same vowel sound with different consonants or the same consonant with different vowels in successive words or stressed syllables, as in a line of verse. (e.g. are time and light or mystery and mastery)
