3. 1ST AND 2ND THOUGHTS What is the best reason you found that disagrees with your position on marijuana legalization? Why is it the best reason? Write the first things that come to mind. Then think about what came to your mind - develop, question, contradict, expand, provide examples, etc.

5. WHY DON’T WE OFTEN CHANGE OUR MINDS?  Confirmation Bias: we tend to only look for information that makes our argument correct, and we ignore most things that go against our argument.  Why is this sometimes bad? Where does it come from?

6. “THE REASON WE REASON”  Important article!  Read along, annotate as you go.  Ask yourself: have I had a confirmation bias when evaluating the sources?  How can we move beyond our confirmation bias?

8. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER  Put the sources together. What are the various perspectives? YES, IN ALL WAYS YES, IN SOME WAYS NO, IN SOME WAYS NO, IN ALL WAYS I DON’T KNOW / UNDECIDED / NO OPINION  Where would you put each source on this spectrum?  After considering all the sources, start to think about where YOU stand! Should marijuana be legalized?

9. REVISE RP  Exchange papers with your neighbor and read his/her RP paragraph  Does your partner fairly show multiple sides of the debate?  What is missing that you think is important?  What did you learn that you can use in your essay?  Incorporate your peer’s feedback/additional evidence into your paper

10. CURRENT POSITION…  Time to position yourself along the spectrum for marijuana legalization!  Where do you stand? Have you moved around through the process of thinking? …or is that just your confirmation bias? ;)

11. HOMEWORK  Finish revising your RP paragraph, and start writing your Current Position paragraph!  RP & CP paragraph is due on Tuesday  Organize your notes, sources, and handouts  We will write the essay in class on Wednesday! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!
