2 Meeting the Challenge Need to ensure all staff have access to learning to support their work Employers' obligations under the NHS Constitution Need to ensure rapid access to learning by many as well as specialist learning by few Challenge of geography and location of staff - NHS SW largest single region 300 miles in length

3 Moving Forwards New model is employer driven and employer owned Will provide access to learning Will offer learning pathways taking people to accreditation Cost of accreditation paid by employer or individual Will include support for assessment Will evolve in partnership with service

4 Operating Principles – Employer Led and Owned 3 Learning and development Level of learning determined by level and depth of content and level of autonomy Blind to qualification and pay band Leaner develops own learning plan gaining approval with line manager Learner centred Promotes matrix approach based on the competencies needed to deliver care in and across each of the pathways Mapped to the KSF Multi-disciplinary/Agency Open to all health and social care providers in the South West Available form any web enabled environment Clinical Pathway centred A hierarchy of learning including a common core Workplace assessments to ensure safe and best practice Access for carers in their primary role over time Access

7 Reusable Learning – Generic and Specialist 6 Pathway Specialist Pathway Core Generic Learning Learning will be available at all levels of the traditional educational pathway and to all levels of staff within the Skills for Health Career framework. The majority of learning content will be generic and applicable to any role in health care in the South West. Other learning content will be pathway or sub pathway specific to enable the development of highly specialist knowledge and skills.
