Lack of identity for HI professionals Health informatics is a young discipline Wide range of functions Many levels of seniority Lack of understanding/ agreement on what health informatics is No established career pathways No clear ‘entry’ route Does not yet display the attributes of a ‘profession’ No standardised approach to role development and recruitment Same jobs, different job title and band Patchy access to education & professional development programmes Core clinical applications overly reliant on key individuals

3 The Career Framework Online resource for NHS and partner organisations, which aids workforce flexibility, individually, locally, regionally and nationally. Can be used equally effectively for a wide range of purposes Role based Linked to, enhances, and brings together other employer, specialist and qualification frameworks such as KSF, SFIA Based on common national standards giving a common language and currency Provides a coherent ‘picture’ of the wider health informatics function giving it ‘identity’ Places health informatics in the mainstream of healthcare

4 The framework UK Project – led by Wales Based on Skills for Health Career Framework Over 90 HI job roles on the career framework Practical examples and case studies Summary of potential uses of framework Integrated with and supported by HI-ProfILE people and resources in Wales Connecting for Health and PHI in England
