The Woodpecker Rap and Dialogue 8

The Woodpecker Rap Wendell: If you wanna have some food, but you’re in a picky mood then choose whatever kind of food you want to dude! You can eat the food that’s great and skip the stuff you hate, ‘cause no one there is gonna make you clean your plate! You can sleep ‘til noon, or party with the moon, then sleep in late tomorrow if it comes too soon. No matter what you’ve heard from any other bird, life out there is awesome, and “freedom” is the word!

All: Freedom…is the word. Freedom…have ya heard? Freedom sing it out! That’s what it’s about, so let me hear you shout “Go Freedom!” Wendell: Sounds like you guys are getting’ the hang of this. Birds: Yeah. You bet. This is so much fun! Wendell: Party on feathered friends! If you feel like rappin’ or maybe cat nappin’ there’s nothin’stoppin’ you from makin’ anything happen! So, when you wanna sing, go on and let it ring! But, you don’t have to sing if singin’s not your thing. You don’t have to take a bath, or even do your math. ‘Cause you’ve got the right to choose your own life path. But, if you wanna fly, you’re gonna have to try, or all the opportunities’ll pass you by! All: Freedom…is the word! Freedom…have ya heard? Freedom…sing it out! That’s what it’s all about, so let me hear you shout, Go freedom! Go freedom! One more time! Groovy dudes! That’s what it’s about, so let me hear you shout, Go freedom!

Dialogue 8 Cooper: Boy, that would be neat! Eat whatever I want…no singing lessons! Sam: I still don’t know who to believe. Marty: (sees the owl) What’s that?!? Sam: Careful, don’t get too close! Kirby: He’s so big! Sam: Yes…he certainly is a large bird. Cooper: Shhh. I think he is sleeping. Marty: In the middle of the day?!? Cooper: Shhh! Maybe he is one of those “knock-turnover” birds. Marty: What’s a “knock-turnover” bird? Cooper: You know. The kind that sleeps during the day and stays awake all night. Sam: That’s a nocturnal bird, silly! Kirby: I wonder if he talks. …Hey, you….you who. Oliver: Me, whooo? Kirby: Whoa. He does talk! Sam: Sir, what kind of bird are you?

Oliver: Whoo,me? I am an owl. My name is Oliver. Sam: of course, I’ve read about your kind. Tradition says that you are very wise. Oliver: Well, I suppose I’m not as wise as some other birds, but I have been quoted once or twice in “Tweeter’s Digest”. Cooper: May we ask you a question? Oliver: Certainly, my young friend. Cooper: What is the world like…out there? Oliver: Hmmm. Why do you ask? Sam: A cuckoo told us that the world is a crazy place. But then a dove said it’s beautiful. Marty: Some hummingbirds told us it’s scary! Kirby: The squirrels said life out there would be fine, as long as we are prepared. Cooper: And then a woodpecker mentioned lots of freedom once we leave this nest. SO, we’re not sure who to believe. Oliver: Hmmm. I see. Well, the answer to your question is very simple really. The world out there is all of those things. Little Birds: Huh? Oliver: Allow me to illustrate what I mean in a way you young ones can understand.
