What is a sonic boom? How much power output is there in 10 million people talking loudly? What is the difference between a radio wave carrying a song to a radio and the wave carrying the sound from the radio’s speakers to your ears? Is it really possible for an opera singer to shatter glass? How do we sense sound?

The text shows a picture of period and calls it wavelength. Notice what is different about period and wavelength – on these plots, it is the horizontal axis variable. Amplitude = A The y-axis label is often not well defined, since it can be many different things in different sorts of waves

Elastic Force k is spring constant, a measure of the “stiffness” of the spring Negative sign indicates a “restoring” force Do “spring class lab” and “Oscillation Discovery lab” The test of all knowledge is experiment. Experiment is the sole judge of scientific “truth”. – Richard Feynman Mass on a spring simulation – http://phet.colorado.edu/sims/mass-spring-lab/mass-spring-lab_en.html

Shock wave http://www.maniacworld.com/jet-breaks-the-speed-of-sound.html A shock wave results for the same reason as the Doppler shift, but occurs when the source travels faster than the wave. This is called a bow wave if it is for surface waves on water.
