GROUNDWATER PCE PLUME

UPPER AND LOWER ZONES

Issues 7 new wells were connected to the system in 2007 to control off-site migration. System was also upgraded. Cost: $450,000 3 new wells were installed in 2009 in an effort to prevent off-site migration from the SWDA. Cost:$160,000. One more well to be connected this year. Cost: $30,000 Seven of the original ten extraction wells have failed and required replacement. Each well costs about $40,000 to replace. PCE is present in the lower zone. R-62B was connected to the system in 2010. The water table has declined 1.5 foot per year since 2000 making extraction wells less efficient. The existing treatment system is designed to treat a maximum of 150 gpm. Adding more wells may necessitate a larger treatment system and new injection wells.

LOS REALES LANDFILL TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY EVALUATION Project Goal – Evaluate the existing conditions and remedial action plan and provide a ranked list of remedial strategies to more cost effectively address groundwater contamination. All strategies listed must be consistent with WQARF rules.

SCOPE OF WORK Review site and the existing RAP, summarize and rank feasible remediation strategies, including no further action, soil vapor extraction in the source area, upgrades to the existing pump and treat system within the upper zone only, pump and treat within both the upper and lower zones, et al. Rank each strategy in terms of effectiveness, ease of implementation and general cost and consistency with WQARF rules. Prepare a report with recommendations. SELECTED CONSULTANT: EEC and Montgomery and Associates. Cost: $47,742. To be completed by March 2012
