FALL SEMESTER FINAL EXAM REVIEW

BEFORE THE MIDTERM (4) 1.Be able to write the correct number of significant digits when performing calculations. (Ch. 2) 2.Be able to convert numbers to scientific notation and back. (Ch. 2) 3.Be able to determine the atomic number, mass number, number of protons, number of neutrons, number of electrons, valence electron number, oxidation number (charge or ion formed), electron configuration, and electron dot formula for any element given. (Ch. 4-5)

CHAPTERS 7-8: BONDING (14) AND FORMULAS (12) 4. Discuss the various types of bonding (ionic, covalent, metallic). 5. Predict various types of chemical bonds that form between the elements using the VSEPR theory (geometric shapes). 6.Write the chemical formula of any ionic compound, molecule compound, or acid compound given its name. 7.Write the chemical name for any ionic compound, molecular compound, or acid compound given its chemical formula.

CHEMICAL REACTIONS (9) 8.Identify the reactants and products in a chemical equation. 9.Write a balanced chemical equation when given the names or formulas of all the reactants and products in a chemical reaction. 10.Classify a reaction a synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, or combustion. 11.Be able to correctly use the activity series for metals and nonmetals. 12.Predict the products of double replacement, single replacement reactions and combustion reactions. 13.Write and balance net ionic equations.

THE MOLE (9) 14. Calculate the atomic mass, formula mass, or molecular mass of any substance. 15. Calculate the mass of one mole of a substance. 16. Calculate the number of representative particles in a given number of moles of any substance and vice versa. 17. Calculate the number of moles of a substance given the mass of a substance. 18. Calculate the percent composition of a substance from its chemical formula or from experimental data.

FORMAT OF TEST Has 44 multiple choice questions, set in order of chapters. Has two molecular geometry drawings (using electron dots). Has two complete/net ionic equations.

MONDAY You will take your Mole test 10 problems – all math BOOK CHECK : You will bring me your book by exam day. I will hold it until you return from the break. Place it along the wall under the sign that designates your period.

TUESDAY Review for final exam due – we will have a homework check. We will vote on the element tiles for the periodic table on the back wall. BOOK CHECK : You will bring me your book by exam day. I will hold it until you return from the break. Place it along the wall under the sign that designates your period.

WEDNESDAY We take the post-test – you took the pretest the first week of school. You will get your papers back. Shortened class period due to seventh period exam. Remember to bring me your book by exam day.

THURSDAY - FRIDAY Final exams Thursday – 1, 3, 5 Final exams Friday – 2, 4, 6 Newspaper coupon: do NOT clip it out. Write the answer on it and bring it in on your exam day.
