2 Microscope – used to look at very small things Magnification – how many times bigger something looks than it really is (EX: 10x magnification looks 10 times bigger than it really is) Lens – piece of glass or plastic used to look at an object, to magnify it Objective lens – the lens that is aimed at the object (not related to goal of class)

3 Calculate – do the math Power – (not related to strength) number of times multiplied (EX: Power of magnification is the number of times bigger the object appears.)

4 Slide – the rectangular piece of glass that objects are put on to look at under a microscope Cover slip – a square piece of plastic put over the object on a slide. Wet-mount slide – a slide that is made using a drop of water between the slide and cover slip (the water holds the cover slip in place)

5 Image – what you see Focus – clear image Fine adjustment knob – changes the focus more slowly Coarse adjustment knob – changes the focus quickly
