RESPIRATORY SYSTEM HAILEY, BRAYDEN, KYLE

ANATOMY Nasal Cavity ( nose) Sinuses Larynx, Trachea Lungs * MAIN ORGAN * Bronchi Diaphragm Pharynx

HOW IT WORKS! ** job= to bring in Oxygen (o2) and remove Carbon Dioxide ( CO2) 1.We inhale air through the nose or mouth 2.Air travels down the pharynx and pass through the epiglottis( keeps food from going down) 3.Air goes down the trachea into the bronchi where it goes into the lungs 4. bronchioles get smaller 5.Gas exchange takes place in the alveoli 6.Oxygen transferred out of the BLOOD ( which the heart pumps into the lung walls) 7.Same time CO2 is being transferred back into the blood and excess air 8.CO2 transferred out of the body into the by exhaling as the diaphragm squeezes the bottom of the lungs to get the air OUT of the lunges and body

CONT. The diaphragm goes UP with you breathe OUT and DOWN when you breathe IN

HUMANS, FISH AND BIRDS! -Humans get air from breathing it in through the mouth and it entering the lungs -Fish take water in through their mouth the it goes into the GILL FILAMENTS and absorb the oxygen -Certain species of bony fish can absorb oxygen through their skin -Birds have lungs and Air sacs but their larynx doesn’t serve as a voice box. Instead the have something called a SYRINX that replaces it. - LUNG fish have to come up tp the surface for air
