Geometry Triangles

What is a Triangle? A three sided convex polygon. A three sided convex polygon. Its three segments are called sides. Its three segments are called sides. Its three angles where the segments meet is called the vertex. Its three angles where the segments meet is called the vertex. Vertex Side

Types of Triangles A triangle can be categorized by either its sides or angles. A triangle can be categorized by either its sides or angles. By categorizing by its sides it can be an isosceles, equilateral triangle, or scalene. By categorizing by its sides it can be an isosceles, equilateral triangle, or scalene. By categorizing by its angles a triangle can be obtuse, acute, equilateral, or right. By categorizing by its angles a triangle can be obtuse, acute, equilateral, or right.

Isosceles Triangle An isosceles triangle is a triangle with at least two sides that are congruent (equal in length). An isosceles triangle is a triangle with at least two sides that are congruent (equal in length).

Equilateral Triangle An equilateral triangle is a triangle with all three sides or angles that are congruent (equal in length).

Scalene Triangle A scalene triangle is a triangle with no sides that are congruent (equal in length). A scalene triangle is a triangle with no sides that are congruent (equal in length).

Obtuse Triangle An obtuse triangle is a triangle with an angle greater than 90 degrees.

Acute Triangle An acute triangle is a triangle with all angles less than 90 degrees. An acute triangle is a triangle with all angles less than 90 degrees.

Right Triangle A right triangle is a triangle with one angle equal to 90 degrees. A right triangle is a triangle with one angle equal to 90 degrees.

This the test… What type of triangle is this?

If you guessed… OBTUSE TRIANGLE… You are CORRECT!!
