2. Sigismund Schlome Freud He was born Sigismund Scholme Freud on the 6 th of May 1856 as a Jewish Austrian He was on of the leading neurologist of the time Died on September 23 rd 1939 Lived in Lepzig and Vienna Studied at the university of Veinna as a medical student

3. When and How? In the early 1900s he developed a psychodynamic view on human behaviour This lead to the idea of inner forces which motivate us, and how people have little conscious control over their actions He developed the idea of the three elements of the personality

4. Basic Outline Personality Theory is based on the idea that the personality has 3 elements to it; The Id, the ego and the super ego These three parts control our behaviour It shows how there are unconscious factors that influence our behaviour

5. The Id The id is the primal element of our personality It is driven by our primal instincts for food, water, sex It is basically the instincts, and basic impulses, ruled by the pleasure-pain principle, completely illogical and irrational It’s only aim is for immediate gratification

6. The Ego The ego is the more reasonable part of our personality It is mainly conscious, and control the decisions we make It seeks to please the Id’s and Super Ego’s needs in a realistic way

7. Super Ego The super ego is the is conscious part our personality It’s purposes are directly opposite to the Id. It wants to achieve long term goals. It seeks to act morally and socially perfect It often causes feeling of guilt and anxiety when its needs aren’t met.

8. How its helped my understanding! It helps to understand how the personility and behaviour works It shows what conscious and unconscious motivation people have for their actions It divides the personality for a simpler understanding of it
