North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading

ACADEMICS NPHS is a school with high expectations of its students. The cheerleading program at NPHS will work to promote each cheerleader’s success in the classroom as well as on the sidelines and the mat. An athlete’s grades should go up, not down during the season. Athletics is NOT an excuse for failing grades. Free time, social time and wasted time must be sacrificed, if necessary, for your academic and athletic well- being. Our priority is proper academic advancement. Additionally, cheerleaders will not be discipline problems in or out of season; they will be focused and on-task in class.

North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading CREED We work together. We win and lose as one. We are open and honest. We are trustworthy. We keep our heads up and our attitudes positive. We work hard to improve our skills. We set high standards for ourselves. We are unselfish. We are students of and ambassadors of North Paulding High School. We are responsible for our own behavior and resulting positive/negative consequences thereof.

North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading RULES Be at practice, games, and competitions on time. Be dressed appropriately. Be respectful ALWAYS show good sportsmanship Do not promote drama among your teammates Being late or missing practice will result disciplinary actions. Practice time cannot be made up and missing practice is a serious offense. Injured cheerleaders are required to be at every practice, as appropriate. There are legitimate reasons for missing practice; those must be cleared with the coach PRIOR to practice. We expect reasons for missing practice to be religious holidays, illness or extreme family-related emergencies (not last minute family plans, reunions, or concerts). If it becomes necessary to suspend or remove a cheerleader, the parent or guardian will be notified. The coaches reserve the right to determine each case on an individual basis.

North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading INJURIES Cheerleading requires strenuous physical activity on the part of each cheerleader. It is the cheerleader’s responsibility to immediately notify the coach in the case of an injury. If the cheerleader requires taping or the like prior to a game or practice, the cheerleader is still expected to be on time. Cheerleading requires its athletes to be in top physical condition to avoid injury. Cheerleaders are expected to not only maintain their strength and agility, but to be working to improve those skills as well.

UNIFORMS / EQUIPMENT If a cheerleader loses his/her uniforms or equipment, he/she will be required to pay for a replacement. Cheerleaders will only be charged what the program pays for the item. Uniforms must be returned, cleaned, in their original condition. Cheerleaders and their parents are expected to pay for cleaning expenses and/or replacement costs for uniforms that are returned soiled and/or damaged. The North Paulding Cheer Program reserves the right to collect a nonrefundable rental fee for uniforms that are distributed. If a uniform is returned in any condition which would render it unusable or in need of repair, the parents will be responsible for the damages. Any uniform not returned by the due date will be considered lost and the parents will be charged for a replacement. North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading

Lettering Requirements Varsity Letters are awarded by coaches to athletes based upon the following criteria:  Cheerleader must cheer at the varsity level  Cheerleader must attend all practices, games and/or competitions, unless properly excused by a coach  Cheerleader may not be disciplined more than 3 times. *If a cheerleader quits or is dismissed from a squad, he/she forfeits his/her letter privileges for that squad.

North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading Financial Responsibility A. The cheerleader is responsible for the cost of camp, clinics, gym fees, accessories, and practice wear (see estimated costs in the 201-2017 tryout packet). There will be no financial restitution made if a cheerleader is removed from the squad for any reason or quits the squad. B. The cheerleading program at NPHS will provide each cheerleader with a uniform per team. A nonrefundable uniform rental fee of will be required for each cheerleader. This fee is an upfront fee, should any cheerleader quit the team or be removed, the rental fee will not be reimbursed at any time regardless if season is not completed or not yet started. Each cheerleader will be expected to sign a uniform agreement when they are first issued. C. If a uniform is ruined beyond repair or lost, the cheerleader must replace it at full cost. D. Cheerleaders must adhere to any additional uniform requirements added by individual coaches. There may be fundraisers during the cheerleading season. E. Every cheerleader is expected to participate fully in any coach assigned fundraiser. (Hardships will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the coach.) F. Note: Competition cheer is expensive and any cheerleader who is on that team is expected to pay her fees. Fundraisers and payment plans will be made available to help with the financials.

North Paulding High School Wolfpack Cheerleading Practices/Games/Events A. It is mandatory that Cheerleaders attend all scheduled practices, games, competitions (if applicable) and events. B. Cheerleaders must be on time for all events and may not leave an event early for any reason other than illness or family emergency. E. Cheerleaders must return to the field or court 1 minute prior to the end of half-time F. Cheerleaders are expected to be in their line up and cheering during games. G. If transportation is provided through the county then all athletes will ride to and from the location. H. No cell phones are allowed to be used during practices or games without permission. I. According to GHSA rules, cheerleaders must attend ½ of the school day in order to participate in any cheerleading event. Any missed practice, game, competition or event will result in disciplinary actions unless it is either a school-approved absence or excused by the coach in advance. J. Cheerleaders must be present at the last practice before an event in order to participate in that event. (Exceptions may be made at the coach’s discretion for individual circumstances or school-related absences.) K. Practices are closed. L. These items should never be given out to friends and family to wear. K. Failure to be in complete and proper uniform will result in disciplinary actions which will include the cheerleader sitting out of the game, competition, or event and disciplinary action will be decided by the individual coach. Cheerleaders should come to games prepared for any type of weather. The team will be uniform at all times so everyone should make sure to bring all issued necessities or she/he will sit out of the game.

Dismissal A. Offenses that result in dismissal: a. 5 demerits during a season or year or sitting out of 3 games. b. Failing 2 or more classes after probationary period in a semester. c. Unbecoming conduct (use of drugs, alcohol, profane language, stealing, smoking, fighting, disrespect to adults, being jailed for any reason, or exhibiting inappropriate behavior. d. Although the coaches do not monitor social media, if it is reported that a cheerleader is in uniform and has posted pictures that misrepresent our program, that cheerleader and her parents will be contacted. Once that conference has occurred, if the situation continues, the cheerleader will be removed from the team. Cheerleaders who are dismissed are still responsible for the payment of supplies. e. Cheerleaders are expected to perform all skills exhibited at tryouts (tumbling, stunting, etc.) Failure to perform the same skill during the season results in dismissal from the team, as it is considered falsification of your member expectations. For the competition team, cheerleaders are expected to maintain the skills required for you to perform the routine. If you lose a required skill, you can be replaced by an alternate. 13 General A. Drama free attitude & behavior. If you choose not to be a team player and disrespect your coach and/or teammates with verbal or body language, (rolling eyes, name calling, etc.), then disciplinary action will be taken. B. Any behavior which is deemed by an administrator as reflecting poorly on the intended image of the school is grounds for dismissal from the cheerleading squad. C. Cheerleaders should act in a respectful manner at all times to parents, teachers, athletes and students while in or out of uniform. Cheerleaders are not to engage in affectionate behavior towards boyfriends at any time while in uniform. This includes public displays of affection (hugging, kissing, etc). Such actions will result in disciplinary action by their individual coach. D. Cheerleaders are expected to attend a banquet at the end of each athletic season. E. All cheerleaders understand and acknowledge their commitment to any squad; therefore, if a cheerleader does not complete the full season with a squad, then the cheerleader forfeits her opportunity to tryout or participate on any cheerleading squad for one full year from time of dismissal. The only exceptions to this rule may be made concerning the illness of a cheerleader or an immediate family member, or someone who becomes academically ineligible but corrects it before the next cheerleading season and/or other exceptions due to understandable reasons.

Academics A. Cheerleaders are expected to be STUDENT-athletes and put a high priority on academic performance. Cheerleaders are expected to pass all classes they are currently taking. Grades will be checked every 4 ½ weeks and appropriate action will be taken for failing grades.  1 or more failing grades – probation (4 ½ weeks to bring it/them up)  1 failing grade after probation – no practice or games until it is brought up. If still failing after an additional 4 ½ weeks (13 ½ weeks), cheerleader will be dismissed from the team  2 or more failing grades after initial probationary period, cheerleader will be dismissed from the team.
