2 Direct Characterization Definition: The author/narrator describes the character directly Example: The little boy got really hurt because he got punched by a donkey. Now he is very hurt and sad.

3 3 Elements of Characterization Definition: appearance, actions, behaviors, speech, interactions Example: The man in the purple shirt angrily yelled at the baker that he wanted his bread.

4 CharacterDialogue Definition: – Character: plays a part in the story – Dialogue: When a character speaks in a story Example: – Character: Rachel is a character in the short story “Eleven”. – Dialogue: “’It’s not mine.’”

5 NarrationNarrative Definition: – Narration: The act or process or instance of narrating – Narrative: something that is narrated or the art and practice of narration or the representation of the narrator. Example: – Narration: Matilda, Finding Nemo, Brave, Hotel Transylvania, Narnia, Titanic

6 Cite Definition: to bring forward or to call another’s attention to Example: The old lady cited evidence of the robber stealing from the bank.

7 Noun Definition: a word that is a person, place, thing, or idea. Example: Jehú, Ian, and Lorenzo were hungry so they went to Chick-fil-A and waited in line. When it was their turn, they ordered a chicken sandwich for each them. After they were done, they went home and played Fifa 2016.

15 Character Trait Definition: a descriptive adjective that tells the specific qualities of a character Example: Little Red Riding Hood went inside of her grandma’s house. LRRH is caring because she was going to visit her grandma.

So he jumped and broke his leg but he got his cookie dough ice cream. – In this situation, the author revealed the character trait through Jordan’s actions. He was very brave.
