2 INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING
Dr. Radhakrishnan has rightly said  "It is essential for us not to live apart but to live together, understanding one another's fears and anxieties, aspirations and thought. We must work for racial harmony. we may be Indian, American, Russian etc but we are essentially human beings. Let us learn to live in a world community."

3 MEANS OF CREATING MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AMONG NATIONS
1. Respect to each other's Culture: Understanding of the various cultures and countries with their conditions and problems is essential for international understanding. Dr Radhakrishnan has therefore remarked, "If human race is to survive. We have to subordinate national pride to international feeling. 2. Love to humanity: To love others is an innate good nature of the human beings. "Live and let others to live" is the basic foundation of international understanding. No body and no nation should think itself superior to others. No discrimination against anybody or any nation on the basis of caste, creed and color etc. should be developed in the people. Adequate knowledge and understanding of the cultures of different countries should be given to every body.

4 WHY EDUCATION IS NECESSARY FOR INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING
Education is the key to uniting nations, bringing human beings closely together. In many parts of the world, civil society suffer because of situation of violent conflicts and war. It is important to recognize the crucial role of education in contributing to building a culture of peace and condemning instances in which education is undermined in order to attack democracy and tolerance. Education is the key tool in combating poverty, in promoting peace, social justice, human rights, democracy, cultural diversity and environmental awareness. Education for peace implies an active concept of peace through values, life skills and knowledge in a spirit of equality, respect, empathy, understanding and mutual appreciation among individuals, groups and nations

5 CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students should feel that they are the members of one world, one community. They should be encouraged to practice tolerance, mutual help and respect for others. The feeling of world citizenship is to be fostered among students through co-curricular activities in school. Co - Curricular activities which go in the school from time to time can be geared to educating for international understanding. The following activities are suggested :- i) Celebrating birth anniversaries of freedom fighters ii) Celebrating international week iii) Celebrating days of international importance iv) Organizing and running UN societies v) Organizing pen friend's club vi) Arranging exhibitions vii) Dramatic representation viii) School assembly ix) International games x) News of other countries

6 AIMS OF EDUCATION IN PROMOTING INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDINGS
Promotion of world citizenship Promotion of world peace Promotion of independent and critical thinking Promotion of constructive rather than destructive feeling Developing the student's faith. Eradicating of racial, religious, cultural and prejudge of other nations ORGANISATION OF INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING UNESCO

7 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)
UNESCO was established in the late 1945 following the end of World War II, when 44 countries met in London to discuss ways to restore the countries devastated by the war. UNESCO is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. Its operation and structure are determined by its Constitution which was drawn up by the members of the LONDON CONFERENCE in 1945. AIMS OF UNESCO There are 3 aims of UNESCO. They are:- Educational aim- Dakar Framework for Action Scientific aim- Peace, Human Rights Cultural aim- World Heritage

8 ROLE OF TEACHER IN PROMOTING INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING
The teacher is even more important than the curriculum because he is medium through which the curriculum is implemented and its goals are achieved. A teacher can make the following contributions towards international understanding:- i) Broad Outlook ii) To understand man as man iii) Wedding out the idea of violence and war iv) Emphasizing peace  v) Cultivating right values vi) Educating adult society vii) Correct Interpretation viii) Use of effective methods of teaching

9 CONCLUSION There is great need of international understanding to defeat poverty and to bring prosperity among the nations of the world. There are certain conditions for maintaining international understanding. We will have to wipe off the differences and conflicts for international understanding. There is the great need of common ideology among all the nations of the world. International brotherhood cannot be con­sidered without the common ideology. For the foundation of international understanding, exploitation, racial hatred and narrow national interest must be completely avoided. We have to remove the narrow sense of nationalism from our mind.
