4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 Progress since 2003 First workshop in 2003 (Rome) Large number of successful R&D projects in US and Europe Second version of WP3 Maturity Assessment ADS-B implementation in Europe, US and Australia First published standard resulting from RFG work (ED-126 and DO-303 for ADS-B-NRA)

4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 SESAR & NextGen 4 D trajectories and ASAS applications will work together as integral parts of the ATM system. ASAS applications for spacing, sequencing and merging and for co-operative separation are included. Self-separation is considered for 2020 and beyond BUT It will require hard work to prove their worth and to keep them as an integral part of the future system

4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 Continuity Continue RFG joint standardisation work Continue with pre-operational trials Continue to work closely with partners in the US, Australia and in Asia Continue to work on benefits MUST continue to interact with SESAR

4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 Work in progress Refinements to Sequencing & Merging –Examination of non-nominal conditions –ACSS equipment being used by UPS –CoSpace algorithms used by ACSS –Electronic Flight Bag in NUP2+ trials Package 2 applications –ASSTAR investigation of Oceanic applications –New applications being asked for –AP23 is a joint US/EUR process for defining Package 2 GRACE simulation

4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 Other considerations Call it « Autonomous Flight Management » ADS-B needs to be approved for airborne separation standards in each continent 1090 mhz saturation If 2% of current passengers switch to VLJs – movements triple

4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 Civil/Military We have included military aspects in previous workshops Briefing on UAVs SESAR Concept of operations does include A/FUA ATM Security and civil/military co-operation SWIM & CDM - Global Information Grid

4 th Workshop, Amsterdam, 23 - 25 April 2007 Standards & Certification Presentations from EASA and EUROCAE High level Concepts to Equipment Specifications R&D→RFG →EUROCAE→EASA Must avoid Regional Standards Certification will not be easy
