3. What is an ecosystem? Ecosystem- all the living and non- living things that interact with another in a given area Biotic- living Abiotic- non-living Ecosystems can be small (rotting log) or large (forest)

4. What is a community? Community- a group of living things of different species found in an ecosystem (ex: all plants and animals) These living things depend upon one another for food, shelter and other needs. They also depend on non living things in the ecosystem

5. What is a population? Population- all the members of the same type of organism living in an ecosystem (ex: all the frogs, all the cherry trees)

6. Biosphere= Earth Biome= Ocean Ecosystem= Living (biotic) and non living (abiotic) factors Community= Only the living factors Population- all of 1 type of living organisms Individual- 1 specific organism

8. Assignment: Divide a sheet of copy paper in half Draw an ecosystem on ½ of the page. IT MUST BE COLORED On the other half you must label the following from your drawing: –5 abiotic (non-living) factors –10 biotic (living) factors –1 community (list all the items in that community –1 population (at least 1 species) I MUST BE ABLE TO SEE ALL OF THESE ITEMS IN YOUR DRAWING (with the exception of “air”)
