6.  Sacred Scriptures › God’s self revelation helps us to know Him intimately and enhances our relationship with Him › It helps us to understand His love for us through the unfolding of salvation history › “Ignorance of the Scripture is ignorance of Christ”, St. Jerome  Prayer › Keeps us connected with God › Essential to our spiritual life › God always listens

7.  Salt and Light (Mt. 5:13-14) › Salt of the Earth  Very strong flavor on its own but when added to other foods it brings out the enhanced flavor of that food. It does not change the flavor.  Preserver › Light of the world  Share our talents and gifts with others. Do not hide then or keep then for yourself alone.  How are you needed? › Give examples of how you can use your talents for the sake of the whole Church.

8.  Daily Life › “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” › Show your love to others morning, noon and night. › School associations › Control your thoughts and feelings › Regular participation in prayer and sacraments  Responsibility › Attend Mass on Sundays › Frequent the sacrament of Reconciliation › Take time to pray › Always speak the truth

9.  Empowered › We as the Church are guided by the Holy Spirit. › In the Creed the Holy Spirit is mentioned with the beliefs about the Church › Holy Spirit is central to the life of the Church  Energizes evangelism  Enables martyrdom  Enlivens the mind as well as the heart  We honor God by using the Holy Spirit’s gifts in the Church

10.  Looking toward the ultimate goal › Eternal life in the holy presence of the glory of God  What talents have I been given and how can I use them to serve God and neighbor?  Am I afraid to say yes to God’s plan for me because in society’s view it is not a “money maker” or “power seeking” occupation?  Does the career in which I am interested contribute to the common good?  Can I keep my faith in the environment in which I will be living?
