2  What is sound?  Technically, sound is vibrations that travel through the air, into our ears, which then sends messages to our brains, which the interprets the vibrations as sound.  There are different types of vibrations, or waves.  Fast, tight waves that we interpret as high sounds.  And slow, far apart vibrations that we think of as low sounds. http://www.spectrum.ieee. org/image/60859
