3. Essential Question: How was life different long ago than it is today?

4. Introduction: What was life like long, long ago? How was it different than life is today? You will be searching for the answers to these questions. There are many ways life is different today than long ago. Clothing, school, transportation, communication, and games have all changed over the years. You will learn about these changes throughout this project.

5. Task: You will be reading articles and watching videos to learn about how life is different today than it was long ago. The topics you will be researching are clothing, school, transportation, communication, and games & fun. As you research, you will record facts you learn about these topics and what they were like long ago and how they are today. After researching, you will use what you’ve learned to create a Wixie project called “Long Ago and Today”.

6. Process: As you visit each page, record what you learn on your “Long Ago & Today” note-taking worksheet. You will be using these notes to create your Wixie project. When you’re finished your project, you will be graded using a rubric. Make sure you have all the parts you need in order to receive a good grade! Keep an eye on this rubric while working.

7. Get Ready… Here are some words you will need to know: Past – The time period that was before now. Present – The time period that is right now today. Communication – Connecting and sharing (phone, letter, etc). Transportation – A way to get from one place to another. Colonies – An area of land that was found and claimed by people from another country. Frontier – An open area of land where few people live.

16. Project Time: Now that you have finished taking notes, it is time to start your Wixie project. First, you must choose 3 of the 5 topics you researched. Circle which topics you will choose on your note-taking sheet. For example, you might choose Clothing, Schools, and Communication.

17. Project Time: Open the assigned Wixie project called “Long Ago & Today”. The first page of the project is blank. This is your cover page. On the cover page, you must include a title and your name. You may also include pictures and details.

18. Project Time: The rest of your pages will be about the topics you chose. Each topic should have it’s own page in your project. On each page, you will include the topic, 1 “Long Ago” fact about that topic and 1 “Today” fact about that topic. You will also include at least 1 picture on each page. 19. Finished? When you are finished all 4 pages of your project, complete your student rubric. When your rubric is complete, you may turn it in to your teacher.

20. Conclusion: Way to go! You are now a history expert! You can use your new Wixie project to share and teach others what you learned about the differences between life long ago and today.
