2 APE Organization 13 people now – open req for an additional engineering-physicist Matlab scripts, electronics Too big for one layer of management R2A2s, ATAs, and other alphabet soup take a long time. Working on how to create groups within the department. Will try to do something reasonable without offending anyone or following Parkinson's law..

3 Project – Software Tools Converge controls / modeling / simulation from various projects LCLS, ATF2, FACET/ 0-20, NLCTA Henrik Loos, Jeff Rzepiela, Glen White, Mark Wodley, Jerry Yocky ATF2 style “flight simulator” would be very nice for debugging code for LCLS LCLS data acquisition and tuning tools might be great for ATF2, NLCTA, S 0-20 / FACET. Lots of very good projects, but maybe not easily compatible?

4 Toroid Electroncs Replacement Use peak detect circuit not gated integrator Allows 25us gate rather than 20ns. With 2.5MHz LP filter still has good linearity to 100ns train widths Use in-tunnel pre-amplifier. Primary noise source was probably AM radio on long cables. Jennifer Loos Dave Brown

5 Compact Fast Wire Scanner Use pneumatic actuator for fast insertion / retraction. Fit on 2.75" cube, 1 side per axis Use "attocube" mover for scan 5mm range, 50nm steps, 3mm/sec "UHV" compatible Hope for a 3-second wire scan. Issues: Radiation sensitivity, vacuum compatibility, etc. Working with Marc Campell

6 Single Shot OTR IR Spectrometer to measure short bunch lengths ZnSe Prism for 0.7-20 micron range ~16 detector elements: HgCdTe, or maybe Pyro Abberations can be corrected with a tilted detector, but awkward mechanically Alan Miahnarhi and Sasha Gilevich

7 LCLS_II Gas Atenuator Variable aperture gas attenuator for 200eV to 20 KeV Use Xe or Kr depending on wavelength. Gas flow OK for standard turbo-pumps Working with Armin Busse

8 Other Projects 360Hz (unsledded) operation of sectors 10-20 for LCLS_II (or maybe 120Hz long pulse?) X-ray instrumentation concepts Polarization, pulse length, femtosecond timing Xband TCAV – project dying for lack of management Various matlab scripts – to be handed over to new engineering-physicist hire. Crude timing monitor for the LCLS injector Easy, but never time to work on it........
