3 Curricular Changes: Overview Instituted in Fall, 2013 New Course Acronym: First-Year Studies (FRST) Includes former Basic Studies (BASK) courses and other former G- acronym writing and math courses Open only to first-year students New Course Attribute: F-designation (first-year student appropriate) Selected program and G-acronym courses Some/all seats are reserved for first-year students Instructor agrees to customize course for first-year students and participates in special institute

5 First-year Competency Requirement All entering first-time freshmen and freshman transfer students must demonstrate competency in writing, reading, and mathematics within one year The requirement may be satisfied in any of the following ways: 1.Placing out of all 1000-level FRST courses upon entry 2.Earning a grade of C or better in all 1000-level FRST courses on the first attempt 3.Earning a grade of C or better in all 1000-level FRST courses on the second attempt Students who do not satisfy the requirement are subject to dismissal from the college for a period of at least one year
