2 For-credit vs. co-curricular We have focused for the most part on for-credit courses and programs Co-curricular programs placed throughout universities but frequently in: – Service and Civic Engagement – Stand-alone Leadership Center/Institute – Student Activities – Residence Life – Scholar programs – Programming boards

3 Factors to consider in credit/co- curricular What are the challenges of getting a credit- bearing course approved on your campus? How do the outcomes differ between a for- credit and a non-credit course? What will the students on your campus respond to? What are their needs? Who is available and appropriate to teach your course?

4 Graduate vs. Undergraduate Graduate Ph.D., Ed.D., MBA, M.S., M.A. Leadership Studies, Organizational and Leadership Studies, Strategic Leadership, Administration and Leadership Studies Separate schools, departments, or included in college of business, education, or liberal arts Undergraduate Major or Minor B.A. or B.S. Leadership, Leadership Studies, Organization and Leadership, Contemporary Leadership

5 Factors to consider in graduate vs. undergraduate What are your learning outcomes? Are they developmentally more appropriate for graduates or undergraduates? What resources are available on your campus for the different levels of programs?

6 Leadership Schools or Colleges Rarer than other types of programs Often developed from major or minor program, or even a Leadership department in a different school Not a large focus today, but we want you to know they are out there

7 Residentially based Living-Learning communities Many universities have an intergrated LLC focused on leadership Some of these are credit-bearing, some are co-curricular
