1 Procurement Services Training Updates, 2008 University of Michigan  Procurement Services Financials Unit Liaison Meeting, March 19, 2008

2 Fundamentals of Procurement  History:  UM M-Pathways system users learned Procurement policies and procedures in three different instructor-led courses for the ePro, Non-PO Voucher, and P-Card processes (approximately 30-45 minutes of content per course).  Current Issues:  Increased internal controls and compliance requirements indicate a stronger need for all UM employees with the ability to purchase goods and services to complete a “Fundamentals of Procurement (How to Buy)” course.  Going Forward:  A single “Fundamentals of Procurement” eLearning course has been created (approximately 60 minutes of total content). All M-Pathways ePro, Non-PO Voucher, or P-Card system users will be required to complete this course as part of their training requirements.  Current ePro, Non-PO Voucher, and P-Card users will not need to complete the new Fundamentals eLearning course.

3 The eProcurement Requisition  History:  The eProcurement Requisition (PRC101) instructor-led training course taught M-Pathways ePro users Procurement Business Process and how to create Special Request and M-marketsite ePro reqs. (Approximately 4 hours of course content.)  Current Issues:  The Business Process content has been moved into the new Fundamentals of Procurement eLearning course.  ePro req users can create PeoplePay ePro reqs as of February, 2008, and require training on this process.  Going Forward:  PRC101 has been broken into four eLearning courses:  PRE101: Fundamentals of Procurement – Business Process (Approximately 1 hour of content)  PRE104: Create a Special Request ePro Req (Approximately 1 hour of content)  PRE105: Create an M-marketsite ePro Req (Approximately 45 minutes of optional content)  PRE106: Create a PeoplePay ePro Req (Approximately 20 minutes of content)

4 How Does This Help End Users?  Addition of the Fundamentals of Procurement Course:  Increases employee understanding of key Procurement policies.  Reduces the risk for improper purchases.  Increases the chance that the best purchasing method is utilized for each transaction.  Ultimately saves the University money.  Modification of ePro Req Curriculum from One ILT to Four ELTs  Eliminate need to take Fundamentals content in ePro req, Non-PO Voucher, and P-Card courses.  Reduce total ePro training time from 4 hours of in-class content to 3 hours and 5 minutes of eLearning content.  Divide eLearning content into manageable “chunks” of content (20 minutes to 1 hour per topic) which can be taken in separate sittings if needed.  Eliminate travel time between primary work location to M-Pathways training facility.  Permit users to locate eLearning content (course, simulations, and supplemental documentation) at any time in MAIS LINC.
