Anesthesia Manager Training Basic Navigation

Presentation TitleDate Objectives By the end of this module the participant will be able to: Use the basic terminology for all parts of the Anesthesia Manager application Use the toolbar and menu options to navigate to all Anesthesia Manager windows and functions

Presentation TitleDate What is Anesthesia Manager? Anesthesia Manager is a charting application and data collection engine for: 1. automatically and manually collected data 2. manually entered fluids and medications 3. It is an application that manages, 4. integrates 5. and stores Vital patient information at the point of care!

Presentation TitleDate Where does all the data come from? Medical devices (through drivers that Picis develops) HIS systems (Hospital Information Systems) Laboratory systems (Future Development) End users Others? Calculations done by Anesthesia Manager

Presentation TitleDate Clinical Data in Anesthesia Manager Real Time Variables Ventilator and Monitor data Manually entered clinical data Medications Fluids (intake and output) QA Laboratory data (Future Development) Clinical events Demographic data

Presentation TitleDate Launch and Login to Application 8.5 LDAP Interface User ID is your Windows Login ID  Hint: enter in the first two to three letters of your user name followed by the down arrow. Your name should populate automatically. Password is your Windows Password

Presentation TitleDate Census List After logging on, the Census list will appear Census list is specific to Campus and location (Main OR, L&D, ECC, EI, Litho, Dental Clinic) Satellite areas will not have a specific Census List Census list is organized by: Operating Room number Alphabetically within the specific OR (NOT BY START TIME) If patient not seen in Census list, hit the Refresh button If patient not seen in Census list, SCROLL to bottom of list as “add on” patients are often slotted into “dummy” rooms which appear a the end of the OR list

Presentation TitleDate Start a Chart for the Selected Patient 1. Highlight the Patient 2. Click Start Session to open a new chart for that Patient

Presentation TitleDate Anesthesia Standard Template Electronic version of your paper record 2. Select Admit Button 1. The Application will default to the: “Anesthesia-Standard” Template “Anesthesia-Eyes” in the ECC/EI Manual selection of the “Riverside Anesthesia Rapid” designed for rapid Gyne, Cysto, Litho Relevant patient information should populate automatically

Presentation TitleDate Home Screen: A Good Place to Start! Anesthesia Manager automatically opens to the Home Screen

Presentation TitleDate Ottawa Hospital Workstation Workstations will have a 19” monitor in portrait mode This will allow the display of considerable data/entry fields Toolbar icons and macros will appear in a vertical orientation on the left hand side of the screen

Presentation TitleDate Home Screen=Anesthesia Summary Flowsheet Consists of: Physiologic Variables Medications Med Infusions/Fluids Standard Anesthesia Monitoring

Presentation TitleDate Home Screen=Anesthesia Summary Flowsheet Consists of: Gases-Agents-Monitor Data Medications Organized alphabetically within a Subheading (eg. Analgesic, Antagonist, Anti- Infective) Med Infusions/Fluids Standard Anesthesia Monitoring Subheading can be turned “OFF” to list drugs alphabetically. Currently NOT WORKING in 8.5 (May, 2015)

Presentation TitleDate Home Screen=Anesthesia Summary Flowsheet Consists of: Gases-Agents-Monitor Data Medications Med Infusions/Fluids Organized by fluids/infusions “In” and fluids “Out” Standard Anesthesia Monitoring

Presentation TitleDate Home Screen=Anesthesia Summary Flowsheet Consists of: Gases-Agents-Monitor Data Medications Med Infusions/Fluids Standard Anesthesia Monitoring

Presentation TitleDate Home Screen=Anesthesia Summary Flowsheet Seclecting the “Home Screen” icon will also take you to the Home Screen (Anesthesia Summary Flowsheet).0

Presentation TitleDate The Tool Bar The Tool Bar is designed to help users easily access functions most commonly used There are two types of toolbars: Main and Macro MAIN TOOLBAR MACRO TOOLBAR will talk about the Macro Toolbar in “Events” Tutorial Fluid Balance S.A.M. Print Remote View Demographics Event Log Log off Home Protocol Med Summary OR Manager ACUPAM Preop Manager Quality Measures

Presentation TitleDate Main Toolbar ”Log Off/On” Log Off-used to stop documenting under your user name Eg. End of case, relief, transfer of care Real time data continues to be captured on patient Log On-used to start documenting under your user name As above Fluid Balance S.A.M. 102 Presentation TitleDate Viewing Options Resolution Each flowsheet has a default viewing resolution (5 minutes) Changing resolution has NO effect on data collection from devices or how data is stored in the patient record. Blue triangles in flowsheet cells means you need a higher resolution to view all data samples. Further discussion on this topic will take place in an upcoming lecture Training Tip: Right-clicking time or date cell in time bar is shortcut for zooming to a higher/lower resolution.
