4 Notable Achievements  MSMS has had many notable achievements in the last three years. ARMT and ARMT+ scores have continually improved in all areas. Students scoring a level III or IV on the reading section have increased from 93.7% proficient on the ARMT in 2010-2011 to 93.9% proficient on the ARMT+ in 2012-2013. In 2010-2011, 91.9% of students at MSMS were proficient in mathematics on the ARMT, and math proficiency rose to 96.0% in 2012-2013 on the ARMT+. MSMS has always made AYP.

5 Notable Achievements  In 2013-2014, students at Muscle Shoals Middle School took the ACT Aspire for the first time in the following areas: English, math, reading, science, and writing. 81.8% of all students benchmarked in English. 58.2% of all students benchmarked in math. 57.0% of all students benchmarked in reading. 44.4% of all students benchmarked in science. 37.3% of all students benchmarked in writing.

6 Notable Achievements  In 2014-2015, students at Muscle Shoals Middle School took the ACT Aspire for the second time in the following areas: English, math, reading, science, and writing. 90% of all students benchmarked in English; that was an 8% gain from the previous year. 67.0% of all students benchmarked in math; that was a 9% gain from the previous year. 66.0% of all students benchmarked in reading; that was a 9% gain from the previous year. 56.0% of all students benchmarked in science; that was an 8% gain from the previous year. 41% of all students benchmarked in writing; that was a 4% gain from the previous year.

7 Notable Achievements  Muscle Shoals Middle School exhibited a gain in all five tested content areas.  In addition, the percentage of students that benchmarked exceeded the national benchmark percentage in all tested subject areas the first two years of ACT Aspire testing.

8 Notable Achievements  Office discipline referrals have decreased due to a revised discipline system and the installation of many security cameras. In 2010-2011, there were 325 office referrals. In 2014-2015, there were only 188 office referrals. This indicates a 42% decline in office discipline referrals over a four year period.

9 Notable Achievements  Communication has improved with the addition of a redesigned website, student access to Google apps such as email, Facebook, Twitter, Remind, School Messenger, INOW Home, Middle Years newsletters, bi-annual system newsletters, and a new LED sign. All faculty and staff at MSMS have received a new computer, phone, and Google accounts within the last three years.

10 Notable Achievements  Technology, communication, capital improvements, and student success in competitions are addressed

11 Areas of Improvement  Each year, the faculty completes a Needs Assessment.  Some of the areas noted in personnel development include acquiring an additional sixth-grade teacher unit that was lost five years ago, an academic coach and/or intervention teacher, reopening the planetarium and home management department with respective teacher units, and adding a special education teacher and additional paraprofessionals.

12 Areas of Improvement  Needed capital improvements include additional security cameras, new student and teacher desks, new library furniture, new gym bleachers, and multimedia projectors.

13 Areas of Improvement  Academic improvements that are needed include a Tier III math program, more nonfiction informational books, ACCESS programs for eighth-graders, and greater funding for various professional development opportunities.

14 Additional Information  Muscle Shoals Middle School is fortunate to have good parent support and community involvement. MSMS has received several community-sponsored grants that have helped provide needed improvements and professional development opportunities.  MSMS PTO has been crucial in supplying technology hardware and essential supplies.

15 Additional Information  The faculty and staff at MSMS exhibits a level of professionalism and work ethic that is essential in maintaining the success of our school.

16 Additional Information  The student body at MSMS is diverse and understands the high expectations set by their parents, teachers, and administrators. Students live up to these standards and represent the school and their families well, as indicated by exceptional standardized state test scores, report card grades, extracurricular achievements, and acceptable conduct grades.
