“ Calhoun” County Profile 13,017 - total population (2000) 4,468 - number of households (2000) 3,019 – population of youth under 18 (2000) number of farms (1997) 363,100 – acres total Cotton (4 th ), Soybeans (2 nd ), Peanuts (7 th ), Corn(6 thD) (2000) 43,799 – Acres Farmland total (1997) 301,373 – Natural Resource acres total Major Industry: Education, health, and social services, 19.3% (2000)

What we heard in the listening session that was unexpected…….. 1)Cut Back on some programs, Extension can’t be all things to everyone. 1)Cut Back on some programs, Extension can’t be all things to everyone.

Listening Sessions How we incorporated what we heard….. 1)Expand the 4-H Horse program, Local Camping program, club and school enrichment activities. 2)Continue providing leadership to the Landowners Association. 2)Continue providing leadership to the Landowners Association. 3)Master Gardner's, Build Green and Profit, Wildlife Conservation and Management, and Forestry Management programs. 3)Master Gardner's, Build Green and Profit, Wildlife Conservation and Management, and Forestry Management programs. What we were unable to incorporate and why….. 1) Do not have the facilities to have our own livestock fair.

Target Audience(s) - Large and Small scale Farmers and landowners. 4-H’ers/youth. Target Audience(s) - Large and Small scale Farmers and landowners. 4-H’ers/youth. Long Range Goals - Use Multi-county Agent in Jackson, PIT coordination, Strong Landowners Association. Outcome Indicators –Additional Marketing opportunities, increase youth participation by 30%, and farmers/landowners trained in management practices by 30% increase.

“4H Program Summary” Major Priority Areas - *Mentoring, *Community Service Opportunities, *Increase education in agriculture. Target Audience(s) – 4-H/youth of all demographics, and adult volunteers in Calhoun county. Long Range Goals – *Increase active clubs, *Promote 4-H in the County through advertisement and School Enrichment programs, *Increase County wide participation, *Increase District and State participation. Outcome Indicators - *Increase 4-H Youth enrollment in Calhoun County by 20%, *Increase the number of active year long clubs by 20%, *Increase the number of active adult volunteers by 20%.

“Natural Resources Program Summary” Major Priority Areas - *Forestry and Conservation management, *Landowners Association, *Wildlife Management. Target Audience(s) – *Landowners, *Foresters, and *Farmers and Ranchers. Long Range Goals - *Network and collaborate between diverse groups of landowners. Outcome Indicators - *Diverse participation in a North Florida network, *45% increase in landowners participation in collaboration and communication in educational programs.

Community Rural Development Major Priority Area – * Community Development Programs, *Leadership development and training Target Audience – * Community groups with special emphasis on minorities. Long Range Goals – *Minority communities to become more self-initiated, *Increase business opportunities within the community. Outcome Indicators - *Increase minority participation in community development by 20%, * Increased entrepreneurial opportunities within the community by 10%.
