The Trebuchet Ethan F-G

What is the Trebuchet The Trebuchet is a machine that can launch many things including boulders, animals with diseases, and even animal feces. It was used for throwing objects (see above) over castle walls, which is why it is so tall. A Trebuchet is made of wooden beams and iron joints for strength, and a leather sling where the projectiles would be placed.

Who Invented the Trebuchet and When The inventor of the trebuchet is so far unknown, but we do know around what time it was invented. It was first used around the middle of the 13 th Century, and took over from the catapult.

What Was the Trebuchet Used For The Trebuchet was normally used for destroying castle defenses, so that they would not be able to fight back. But occasionally, it was used to break through castle walls so that they would be able to get inside and lay a siege. Once they were inside they would throw barrels of boiling oil that was on fire called “Greek Fire” at the people who lived inside the castle.

Why Was the Trebuchet Important The Trebuchet helped soldiers take over castles, and also helped get rid of unwanted things like dead people and diseased animals (Ha Ha Ha) The Trebuchet also killed or injured people inside the castle so that they would not be able to fight back. The Trebuchet was called the Ingenium in Britain.

The Trebuchet In Motion This image shows how the Trebuchet Works. First the large counterweight pulls down the short end of the arm which makes the long end raise into the sky. Next, the sling releases from the long end of the arm, which releases the projectile such as a rock, which then lands at the target.

Summary The Trebuchet was a siege weapon of the medieval times invented by the Chinese. It helped soldiers in laying a siege, and also helped getting rid of unwanted diseases from dead bodies that ere catapulted into the castles. All in all, the Trebuchet is better than the catapult because it is capable of throwing things over castle walls. It is also capable of throwing 300 pounds instead of the catapult’s 60 to 70 pound weight limit.
