Insurance - FAQ Q. What is General Liability Insurance? A. General Liability insurance is designed to protect a person against any legal responsibility arising out of a negligent act or failure to act as a prudent person would have acted, which results in bodily injury or property damage to another party. Any individual involved in your activity can claim damages as a result of an injury. Even though you may not be negligent in your actions, defense costs alone can be financially devastating. This policy will provide protection for both legal defense costs and any compensatory damages that may be awarded, subject to the limits and conditions of the policy. Transferring your risk to an insurance policy provides you the opportunity to run your activity with peace of mind. Q. How do we apply for coverage? A. Please contact Ontario School Boards Insurance Exchange at or call Tammy Hicks, Client Services and Business Development Manager at to have a council added to the policy.

Insurance – FAQ – cont’d. Q. What activities are covered? A. Activities usual to a school council and parent/teacher organizations such as meetings, fundraisers, and non-competitive recreational skates. Coverage is excluded but not limited to all organized sport activities. There is no liquor exclusion however, it is assumed that councils will assume alcohol responsibility and limit these events as much as possible. It is also further assumed that only people of legal drinking age will be consuming alcohol.
