Telling a personal story to your readers. (First Person POV) - an experience or event from his or her past -a recent or an ongoing experience or event -something that happened to somebody else Remember – the main purpose is to entertain. You are trying to involve your reader in the story. Ex Topic: A Time I found Most Amusing…

Explain a subject or topic by using facts and data as opposed to opinion. The goal is to share factual information to your reader. The essay should show your knowledge / research of the topic or subject. Ex: Great White Shark Size Diet Habitat

The purpose of a persuasive essay is to convince the reader to agree with your viewpoint. Use evidence to support your viewpoint. Consider opposing views. They may assist you develop your own arguments. Present a strong conclusion that makes your statement. Ex: I think Weekends are Too Short…

Purpose is to describe a person, place, or thing in such vivid detail that the reader can easily form a mental picture of your description. Use imaginative language and details that appeal to the five senses: sight, taste, touch, smell, and hearing. Purpose: to immerse readers into the world of the author.

Average Paragraph: The storm caught me by surprise. I was walking down the street when the clouds gathered. I crept under a tree for cover. Most of the houses were abandoned but one stood out. The windows were broken but it seemed fine. Descriptive Paragraph: The sudden, swift, severe summer storm caught me totally unaware. I was walking down an old countryside road when the clouds started to gather. I looked around as I crept under a large, dead oak tree. Almost all of the houses on this abandoned street were too badly damaged for me to take shelter in, except for one. The house stood out in the purplish black sky. A flash of lightning briefly illuminated the house. The windows were broken, but the actual house seemed fine.
