Current status of Environmental Protection Policy and Science and Technology in Panama The environmental protection policy, science and technology in Panama is very important that is the reason the Government is creating a new office dedicated to determine the environmental impacts of the construction of new buildings as mandated by the new law for Environmental Protection. The study of environmental impacts can be performed by private organizations or universities of the country. Science and technology has continuously developed. The universities and the government’s offices uses equipment and instruments of high technology to improve its services, doing scientific analyses for several contaminants (pesticides, domestic wastes, and others); medical diagnostic tests; and improving communication: by , internet, news programs of computers and others.

Regulation of Environmental Contaminants Specifically of Pesticides Law 47 “Vegetable Safety” - created in September 6, 1996 Law 47 “Vegetable Safety” - created in September 6, 1996 Executive Decree No rules on the use, registration, transport activities and handling of pesticides for agricultural use in Panama. Treatment Technology Our Government has taken its initial steps towards environmental protection. Studies are presently conducted to identify the best treatment technologies. Aside from this, monitoring of environmental contaminants is also going-on. With regards to this, a chemical laboratory is presently assigned to monitor and determine problems by sample analysis. Technology for monitoring environmental contaminants  The technology that are using in the institution are equipment following:  Gas-Liquid Cromatography with detector SD, NPD, FID, ECD and MS and High Liquid Chromatography Performance (residues pesticides, hormones: in meat, vegetable, fruits, soil and water)  Adsorption Atomic Spectrophotometer (heavy metals in meat, water, fish, shrimp and soil)  Elisa Lector (antibiotic in meat, shrimp and honey).

Outline of your experience on Risk assessment and Monitoring Environmental Chemicals. My experience on Risk assessment and Monitoring Environmental Chemicals, The first thing about is the personal security, any time when I going to take a sample of pesticides formulation, I must take care necessary, because I have to do this work for long time and I think that is the principal reason and also we can make a mention the importance of the industry in this subject, they have to create conscience and also work together with the government who have created laws that should be respect by the private organization and the communities in general. This problem environmental contaminants is affecting all over the world. we are a country is growing in technology and also the people and we need this help of development country and highly technology as Japan, for a future better in ours country. Others  The opportunity of course is good, because in my case I am starting in this project for reduce environmental contaminants (pesticides residues in vegetable and fruits and others matrix), my professional study and job are connected and I wish it were possible for improve the technical capacity and training to more persons on the learned with yours.
