Presentation transcript:

Do Now: -Examine the map of South America. -Does the geography of South America help or hinder cultural diffusion?

Cultural EffectsRegionalism -South America was physically isolated from European & Asian culture because of its surrounding oceans (Pacific & Atlantic) -As a result of this isolation, technological advances made by European & Asians did not reach South & Central America. -The Andes Mountains & the Amazon Rain Forest have isolated native people from each other, as a result many distinct cultures developed -Geographic isolation of native peoples from each other caused disunity to develop amongst Mesoamerican people. -Regionalism is when people are intensely loyal to their particular region or area. Ex: Mayans view themselves as Mayans first & Mexicans second.

Use the map of South America & the Word Box to fill in the blanks Fill in the practice essay on geography, listing 3 examples & the main idea
