Christ Baptist Church Fall 2015 / Spring 2016

1.What does the Holy Spirit do in verses 1-12? What is the reaction of the group? Where did they go first? Why did Saul, who was called by God to go to the Gentiles, go first to the synagogues to preach? Acts 3:25-26, Romans 1:16, Romans 9:1-5, Romans 10:1

Note the change in name from Saul to Paul 2.What does it mean to be "filled with the Holy Spirit" (13:9)? Is this something that can happen to us today? Please explain. Do you find anything else interesting?

Compare these verses to Acts 13:1-12What things had changed since the missionary group left Antioch? Where did the missionaries go after leaving Perga? Where did they go when they arrived? How was it that Paul had an opportunity to preach? How did Paul address his audience? Trace some important points in Israel’s history which Paul mentions here.

What had the people & rulers of Jerusalem done & why? In contrast to what the Jewish people did, what had God done? V30 What proof did Paul give that this actually happened? V31 V27,28 V33 – Psalm 2:7; V34 -- Isaiah 55:3; V35 – Psalm 16:10 What Old Testament Scriptures had been fulfilled when God did this? Why did these Scriptures have to refer to Jesus and not to David?

What two blessings came through Jesus’ death and resurrection? What do the following passages from Paul’s later letters teach about these things? Romans 3:21-26 Romans 5: Corinthians 5:21 Galatians 2:16-21 Ephesians 1:7 V38, 39

With what warning did Paul close his sermon? 3.What is the significance of each of the three parts of Paul's sermon in Acts 13:16-41? 4.Why is the resurrection so central to the Gospel we proclaim?

What was the immediate reaction to Paul’s sermon? How many came to the synagogue the next week on the Sabbath? How did the Jews react? (v45) And how did Paul and Barnabas respond? What do you think it was about Paul's message that brought so much hostility from many of his fellow Jews? V46 V42,43 he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
