Obtaining Support From Police Officers for Crime Prevention Programs Presented by American Crime Prevention Institute

The prevention of crime should be a prioritized goal of every law enforcement agency. Every member of a law enforcement agency should be involved in crime prevention efforts. Uniformed patrol officers, criminal investigators and members of specialized units should view crime prevention as a key responsibility

Strategies to Gain Department Support for Crime Prevention Support for crime prevention must come from the Sheriff or Chief of Police Police officers should receive a significant amount of crime prevention training in their basic law enforcement training – 2-weeks for the Honolulu, HI PD One or two-day crime prevention seminars should be provided to law enforcement officers

Roll-call crime prevention training should be provided Internet-based crime prevention training for officers should be developed The crime prevention unit should develop and distribute on annual report of activities Line officers should be encouraged to interact with local civic organizations

Crime prevention should be integrated with community policing efforts School security surveys Convenience store security programs House of Worship crime prevention Etc.
