What does it mean that God is “Almighty”? Are there any limits to what God can do? How does God use His power in the world today?

Power is greatly coveted by many people, and some have great power in this world. In today’s lesson, however, we will look at the most powerful being there is, and how He rightly uses His great power.

Power to Spare Genesis 17:1-8 family theme: God is the Almighty family theme: God is the Almighty

Know: The name of God, El Shaddai (“God Almighty”), indicates His mighty power to bless His people within the covenant relationship. It also testifies to His justice and mercy. Objectives:

Think: Understand that our God, El Shaddai, has power to judge the wicked, and power to save and bless those who know Him through Christ. Do: Trust and depend completely on God as your holy, loving, powerful El Shaddai. Objectives:

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Bless Genesis 17:1-8

God’s Old Testament name “El Shaddai” reminds us that Jesus Christ, as God, is the Sovereign Lord of all.

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Bless The name El Shaddai tells us that our God is sovereign, meaning He has plenty of power to do whatever He chooses. His sovereignty involves, first, His power to bless.

Worship the Almighty God who has blessed us through His power. How could the Almighty God use His power to bless and help the following people?

Worship the Almighty God who has blessed us through His power. Brent is a young father diagnosed with what appears to be terminal cancer. Is God still El Shaddai if no healing comes?

Worship the Almighty God who has blessed us through His power. How could God display His power in Brent’s life even if He doesn’t choose to heal?

Worship the Almighty God who has blessed us through His power. Jessica is an executive assistant in a small corporation. The people she works with often poke fun at her Christian testimony. They throw temptation in her face, belittle her as a prude, and exclude her from off-hours activities and parties.

Worship the Almighty God who has blessed us through His power. How can God’s power make a difference for Jessica? What would it look like in her situation? What are some ways God has blessed you?

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Keep Covenant Relationships Exodus 6:3-7

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Keep Covenant Relationships The Lord appeared to the patriarchs as El Shaddai, and as that sovereign, powerful God He made His covenant with them.

Be faithful to love and obey Almighty God who brought us into a relationship with Him through Christ. What are some promises God has made to us through our covenant relationship with Him through Christ? What is our responsibility in our relationship with God?

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Show Mercy Exodus 43:14

In His mercy, God offers salvation and forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ.

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Show Mercy Closely linked to His work of establishing the covenant and keeping its promises is Shaddai’s great mercy. Mercy is the love of God shown to those in desperate need.

Show mercy to others as Christ has shown mercy to us. What are some ways God has shown mercy to us? What are some ways we can show mercy to others?

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Exercise Justice Isaiah 13:6

El Shaddai, God of Power and Sovereignty, Uses His Great Power to Exercise Justice Through His name El Shaddai, God reveals His great power as a just and righteous sovereign. All of His actions display this justice because He is by nature the source of what is just and right in the universe.

Live right and warn others that God will bring about justice. How can we reflect God’s justice in the way we live?

Live right and warn others that God will bring about justice. How might we explain to an unbeliever that God loves him or her and wants what is best for every person, but that He is also just and must bring judgment on sin?

To whom could you show mercy this week, even though they do not deserve it? How could you show that person mercy, and reflect to them how God shows us mercy?
