Mt. Fuji eruption of 1707 Mt. Fuji, Japan

There weren’t any deaths from the eruption because there wasn’t any lava that came out of the volcano but there were deaths from starvation because of crops and farm land was damaged by the ash and rocks. Deaths

Ash When Mt. Fuji erupted there wasn’t any lava flow but there was lot of ash and the ash was falling like rain. The ash went everywhere and it even reached Edo(60 miles away). The ash didn’t really take place until when people needed things like food and water.

Mount Fuji is a composite volcano and it doesn't erupt a lot of the time but when it does it does massive damage to the environment and people. It is also know for its almost perfect cone shape and is the tallest mountain in Japan. What type?

Injuries (Rock Climbing) Japan is very famous for its rock climbing, trails, etc. In 2012 about 320,000 people made it to the top but 25 died climbing. Most deaths were result of either slipping on snow or rock. During the colder months people died because of hypothermia and freezing to death. Other climbers that climbed ,died of heart attacks or other physical problems.

Map Mount Fuji is on the border between Yamanahashi and Shizuoka. You can also see Mt Fuji in Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days. Mount Fuji is also the highest mountain in Japan. Japan also is on of the top country's that receive the most earthquakes. Japan receives about 1,500 earthquakes a year.

Plate Boundaries There are 3 plate boundaries that are around Mt. Fuji, North American, Philippine Sea, and the Pacific plate. The weird thing about these plates is that whenever there is an earthquake and ,the people of Japan expect a volcano eruption later after. There was an earthquake in 2011 and people are expecting a volcanic eruption but it hasn’t erupted yet. Thisearthquakes magnitude was a 9 and caused a tsunami which killed 15,000 people and caused 34.6 billion dollars worth of damage. This was the most powerful earthquake in Japans history.

Cause On October ,28 1707 there was an estimated 8.6 earthquake called the Hoei earthquake in Honshu, Japan which triggered the volcano to erupt. This earthquake caused a tsunami which caused about 5,000 deaths. The Hoei earthquake was also the largest earthquake in Japanese history until the 2011 Tohoku. There were also about 29,000 houses destroyed and there was also a major landslide, which was one of the three biggest Japan has had. This earthquake was said to have triggered the eruption of Mt Fuji 49 days later.

Other Places The Aleutian arc is the large volcanic arc in Alaska. Mt. Frosty is a stratovolcano like Mt Fuji. Mt frosty elevation is 2,012 miles up.

Areas at Risk/Safety Precautions There are a lot of safety precautions for volcanoes but they are pretty simple. Stay away from rivers because of mudflow, and also avoid driving because ash can damage your engine and metal parts. Make sure you also wear long sleeve shirts and long pants and goggle or glasses over your eyes. Make sure you have a emergency mask or a damp cloth over your face. After the eruption make sure you sweep the ash from the top of your roof because ash can put excess weight on your roof. And most importantly don’t touch the lava.
