BAFS – S.5 Elective Accounting Module

What is Accounting? It is a “Specialized language” of business. – enables you to communicate and understand the financial operations of all types of organization. – Is the business making profits? – Is it worth investing? The systematic recording, reporting, and analysis of financial transactions of businesses. One of the “oldest professions” – backbone of ALL businesses.

Topics covered in the NSS – BAFS Curriculum S.6 – Managerial Accounting Preparation of reports for internal users of businesses. Analysis for making managerial decisions. S.5 – Financial Accounting Preparation of financial statements (Advanced). Financial Analysis & Interpretation. S.4 – Introduction to Accounting Recording transactions & preparation of financial statements (Basic).

Why study Accounting? Further studies in ANY business-related subject? – E.g. BBA, Professional Accounting etc… Pursuit a professional career? – Accountant, financial controller / analyst, CFO etc… Personal development? – Knowing how to analyze business performance? – Develop a logical mind?

Who is suitable to study Accounting? Common misconceptions Q) “Accounting = no need to write?” Ans) Major focus would certainly be calculations, but still need to analyze and interpret figures. Q) “Study Accounting has to be good in Maths?” Ans) In accounting, only “+ - x ÷” will be used for calculations. What’s more important, is a logical mind!
