Presentation transcript:

 Autism is a disorder affecting children’s ability to communicate. Autism makes it hard on Children to do many things that come easy to an unaffected child.  Many Autistic children are mentally slow.  Seen about 4 times more in boys than girls.

 Even though Autism has been researched many times again and again, the location of gene and the chromosome is unknown.  Some regions have been identified but still more research needs to occur before verifying if that is true.  Autism does occur due to environmental and genetic causes, this combination is multifactorial inheritance.  There is most likely more than one gene involved. Autism is at higher risk for twins that are identical.

 Problems developing nonverbal communication skills, facial expressions, and body language.  Cannot establish many friendships of the same age.  Lack of interest.  Lack of ability to show sympathy towards someone.  A need for sameness and schedule.  An unusual focus on pieces. Ex- parts of a toy.  Repetitive use of language and stuttering.  Problems starting a conversation  Problems with eye contact.

Although there is no cure for Autism, there are many treatments for reducing specific symptoms. Some treatments include training in music, language, and the senses. People with Autism can improve significantly by just treating specific symptoms. Treatments will vary for different cases, based on what is needed. There are no single medicines proven to help Autism, but there are medications to reduce self injurious, aggressive and harmful behavior. Some medications used are… Stimulants Antipsychotics Antidepressants Tranquilizers Some medications used are… Stimulants Antipsychotics Antidepressants Tranquilizers

 Some say that megavitamin therapy can contribute to reducing symptoms of autism.  DMG or dymethyltryglicine is used and is considered a food not a drug that may improve speech in children with Autism.  One researcher found that Exercise can help with symptoms such as self injuries, aggression, and decreasing hyperactivity.

Research into cures for autism is difficult because the condition is a genetic disorder, inherited from parents, linked to more than one mutated gene, affected by environmental factors, and lacking genealogical data. Autism is linked, but not limited to genes. Scientists are still trying to find out other factors that cause autism. Autism is a very complex disorder, the causes of which is still not fully known.

Obviously one with Autism, will not live a completely normal life. Everything will just be a little harder. They all still have a chance of keeping a job and doing normal everyday things but for most there is no chance of living alone. It does depend on the severity of the case but most children with autism do not have a chance of normal lives and end up living with a family member. Social skills could improve but nothing will come easily.

 Usually children with Autism have some skill that they are highly advanced at. Some include video games, music, piano, etc.  Every 11 minutes a child will be born with some sort of form of Autism.  1 in 91 kids have Autism.
