The Perfect Tenses Paco has already left London. He has enjoyed it a lot. He has been on the Scottish Pullman for over an hour now. He has been reading a book for half an hour. He has read 25 pages of Harry Potter so far. He had never read a real English book before. He has seen all the films. J.K. Rowling has lived in Edinburgh for many years. An old lady has just started speaking to Paco: ‘My relatives have just had a baby and I haven’t seen them yet. Have you ever been to Edinburgh?’

Noun Suffixes Here we have the most common suffixes that form nouns in English: Examples: free (adj) – freedom private (adj) – privacy arrive (verb) – arrival please (verb) – pleasure friend (noun) – friendship sad (adj) - sadness

Contrast: Perfect and past Last night, Paco met Paul's friends after the rugby match They went to some typical British pubs. After they had drunk several pints, they felt a bit dizzy. The strange thing was that they had been drinking pint after pint but they didn't seem to notice much effect. Only when all the pubs had closed down, they decided to go home. That was quite strange for Paco, because in Spain pubs usually close a bit later than here.

Working with words  A synonym is a word with the same meaning as another word in the same language. ADULT - MATURE BUSY - OCCUPIED  An antonym is a word that is opposite in meaning to another word in the same language. EXPENSIVE – CHEAP BIG - SMALL

Write a letter or an Dear Sonia, How are you? I hope you are all OK. I'm writing in English to show you how much I've learned! I am having a great time here in the UK. I have visited many places and I have tried some typical Scottish dishes. Haggis is the most typical national dish, made of minced sheep's liver, heart and lungs, but I didn't like it very much. However I tried some cakes which I loved! Last night I stayed at his parents' house. They invited me for dinner (which was lovely) and we had a great time. We spoke a lot and, after a couple of hours, their accent became easier to understand. In the morning we got up a bit late and his mum prepared for us what they call 'brunch', which is a late breakfast and an early lunch. I had a typical British breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausages, tomato and some bread. It was nice! I must rush now because I'm going to meet Paul. I hope to hear from you soon, Take care, Paco
