Mrs. Frank’s Expectations How is our writing graded?

Level 1 Most casual and basic writing, writing mainly for yourself and those closest to you No need to explain inside jokes because people reading this writing should understand them Audience: teacher, parents, closest friends, classmates Almost a counterpart speech

Level 1 GRADED ON… Content Thoughtfulness Effort This level does not need to be typed.

Level 2 More formal and standard than Level 1 Can be read and understood by most people in the writer’s social circle Audience: teacher, parents, school wide community Similar to speech used with acquaintances, but fit to reach a wider audience, those unknown to the writer

Level 2 GRADED ON… all aspects of Level 1 and Spelling Appropriate tone and rhetoric This level must be typed.

Level 3 Formal writing Occurs when the form is as important as the message Audience includes readers far from the same social circle as the writer Level 1 = journal, Level 2 = letter to a friend, Level 3 = letter to Donald Trump

Level 3 GRADED ON… all aspects of Levels 1 & 2 and Grammar Punctuation This level must be typed, edited, revised, and nearly publishable.
