Welcome to Malmö – a diversity of meetings and possibilities Malmö is the growth centre of the region 300,000 inhabitants Population expanding for the twenty-third year in a row 30% of the city’s inhabitants were born abroad 174 nationalities represented Young population: 50% are under 35 years of age Metropolitan area Öresund area 3.7 million

SÖM Innovation Develop a local integrated urban development strategy with the help of the Malmö University for the SÖM area through process coordination New broad partnership between “all actors” Communication platform for all actors Process coordination via help desk Targeted actions through ERDF and ESF funding

SÖM Impact Increased cooperation between (PPP) private, public and NGO actors Participation among local entrepreneurs, SME’s, house owners, citizens and organisations Reach long-term and sustainable partnerships SÖM Fosie ; one project of 10 i.e. has met all its objectives: 120 new jobs (indicators are all equally divided men/women); 4 new businesses; to have created 120 summer jobs; 80 young people in job practice, create 1 business with mixed ownership; 5 new networks, 2 initiatives to raise the attractiveness in the area, 3 working groups with the aim to support the development in the residential area, 3 new meeting places for jobseekers and employees, 3 local area based programmers; to invite and start business relations with 100 businesses and local developers; visitors in the areas meet

SÖM Sustainability All projects under the process coordination umbrella, has aimed at improving the area in social, economic and environmental ways Projects continued to be funded after project end or integrated as mainstream municipal actions Partnerships long lasting Help desk continue to function with city funding as an integrated part SÖM has “become” a new Area based program with focus on social innovation in five areas.

SÖM Partnerships Bottom-up i.e. through meeting places Private Public Partnerships, new and sustainable New internal partnerships of cooperation within the city administration External new or improved partnerships were established with Malmö University, the National Employment Agency, National Insurance Office, private sector in Malmö and neighbouring areas
