Latest Developments from SSI/QTT Pavement Algorithm RWIS – Year round Usage High-end Weather Graphics Display

Some pavement information absolute. Pavement temperature. Freeze point. Chemical percent Percentage of ice Precipitation accumulation

But pavement conditions that rely on words are, most often, not definite. Is this an example of Chemical Wet or Snow Ice Warning? Depends on who you ask…

The Old Way Starting with raw data, force a Yes/No decision at each step. Two Problems with this… 1.What if one of the sensors on the RWIS is not measuring the conditions exactly? (Sensor unable, calibration problem, sensor not working, etc.) 2.As we stated earlier, two humans may not agree on those conditions. With this method, too often, the final decision about pavement condition is wrong.

The STORM Vision Way From raw data, create measures of Yes that can vary from No to Absolutely, or anything in between. Combine these measures of Yes to form new measures of Yes. Ideally, report final “decisions” as Yes, No, or something in between. To support NTCIP-ESS, use only these final reports to make Yes/No decisions.

Road Weather Information An RWIS for every application RWIS Platforms –RWIS elite –RWIS advanced –RWIS companion Software Platforms –SCAN Web –RWIS Online –SCAN PC

Road Weather Information Assisting customers in getting year-round use from an RWIS system. Other uses: –Traffic Information –Environmental Sensors –License Plate Recognition (AMBER Alert, route timing) –Device Control (Visibility system, Flooding)

Weather Interface “Free” internet has forced weather providers to find more ways to add value to products. Answer has been providing a “one stop shop” of weather information, and better level of product.

High powered weather graphics software. –Application running on a computer with access to the internet. –Provides user high degree of control of data.

STORM Beacon Key Features Radar able to zoom to street level RWIS data can be overlayed as layer Radar “predicts” image one hour into the future National Weather Service Spotternet work is overlayed as icons in near real-time. Customer can add their own message providing feedback to the SSI weather center.
