The Digestive System: Crohns disease By: Marissa Bailey

Crohns Disease Crohns Disease is an inflammatory bowel disease. It causes inflammation of the lining of your digestive tract. Inflammation often spreads deep into the layers of affected bowel tissue.

Caused by? The exact cause of crohns disease remains unknown at this time. Scientists do know that heredity and a malfunctioning immune system do play a role in Crohns disease. Heredity: family members with Crohns disease may possibly pass it down. Immune system: bacteria and viruses may also cause Crohns disease.

Symptoms of Crohns disease The last part of the small intestine and colon are affected the most. Inflammation may be confined to the bowel wall and cause scarring, or spread through the bowel wall. Abdominal pain, ulcers, bloody stool, diarrhea, little to no appetite, weight loss, other symptoms include: fever, arthritis, mouth sores, and skin disorders.

Cure? Just like the cause the cure for crohns disease is unknown. Doctors may try drug therapy or in some cases even surgery.
