doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission Background In 11ax, the number of tones has quadrupled relative to 11ac (for the same BW) and with it potentially the severity of the FB overhead. Current IEEE spec framework states –The amendment shall define a mechanism to reduce the MIMO compressed beamforming feedback overhead –That mechanism shall use the compressed beamforming feedback as defined in section in ac as a baseline –In the IEEE September meeting we agreed that Ng = 1 won’t be used. In this contribution we investigate values of Ng greater than 1 for many channels, configurations, SU and MU and try to conclude on a set of Ng values that provides good balance between efficiency, performance and minimizing options January, 2016 Slide 11Ron Porat, Broadcom, et. al.

doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission Simulations January, 2016 Slide 12Ron Porat, Broadcom, et. al. Extensive simulations over many cases SU ‒ 4x1, 8x1, 8x2, 8x4 MU 4x1, 3 users, Nss = 1/user 8x1, 3 users, Nss = 1/user 8x1, 6 users, Nss = 1/user 8x2, 3 users, Nss = 2/user 8x2, 6 users, Nss = 1/user Channels considered: 11nB, 11nD, 11nE, UMi-LoS Full results in appendix, following two slides show sample results

doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission Results: Ng = 16 Useful in many SU cases and simpler MU cases January, 2016 Slide 13Ron Porat, Broadcom, et. al. SU: 8 antenna AP, 2 antenna STA, 11nD channel MU: 3 STAs each with 2 antennas, 8 antenna AP, 11nD channel Ng = 16 is optimal (or near optimal) in about 55% of the cases simulated

doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission Results: Ng = 4 Ng = 4 – used in more challenging SU and MU cases January, 2016 Slide 14Ron Porat, Broadcom, et. al. MU: 6 STAs each with 1 antenna, 8 antenna AP SU: 8 antenna AP, 4 antenna STA, 11nD channel Ng = 4 is optimal (or near optimal) in about 45% of the cases simulated

doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission Conclusion Investigated choices for tone grouping parameter Ng. Propose two values –Ng = 16: Achieves peak goodput for many SU cases and for the simpler MU cases (same overhead as 11ac Ng = 4) –Ng = 4: Suffices for the more challenging SU and MU cases and has same overhead as 11ac Ng = 1 In addition for MU, propose to feed back delta SNR on all tones where the V matrix is fed back –Unlike 11ac where delta SNR was fed back on half the tones used to feed back V –This prevents an effective Ng of 8 and 32 for delta SNR and simplifies the STA processing with very minimal increase in overhead January, 2016 Slide 15Ron Porat, Broadcom, et. al.

doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission SP #1 January, 2016 Slide 16Ron Porat, Broadcom, et al. Do you support adding to the TG Specification Framework: The compressed beamforming report shall support the following values for the tone grouping parameter Ng: Ng = 4 and Ng = 16 (Ng is referenced to the HE 4x payload tones). Yes No Abstain

doc.: IEEE /0088 Submission SP #2 January, 2016 Slide 17Ron Porat, Broadcom, et al. Do you support adding to the TG Specification Framework: In the MU Exclusive Beamforming Report for the delta SNR, the locations of the feedback tones shall be identical to the tone locations of the compressed V matrices fed back Yes No Abstain
