Reading There are 3 main stages of reading. Before-reading During-reading After-reading

Before-Reading WHY are students reading this passage( 本文 )? What is the purpose? Can be short (2-3 minutes)

Skits (ALTs can write or it can be a conversation). Introduction using easy English phrases and picture cards. Stories related to reading. Ask some easy questions (in English) related to the reading theme.

After-Reading How do we check understanding? How do we make the reading meaningful? JTEs and ALTs usually skip this or forget.

Example Reading Activity

Writing Students do NOT write enough. The best way to learn writing is to practice. A LOT. The ALT can check writing and give feedback quickly and easily. The ALT can also give great examples of writing, and think of easy topics for students.
