Overarching Habits of Mind - $100 This standard is all about developing the habit of using precise terminology and symbols within the world of mathematics. There is a close relationship between accuracy of language and symbols and accuracy of mathematical reasoning.

Overarching Habits of Mind - $200 This mathematical practice requires students to check answers to problems and continually ask, “Does this make sense?

Overarching Habits of Mind - $300 This mathematical practice requires the teacher to insist on the use of clear definitions, and accurate vocabulary and calculations

Overarching Habits of Mind - $400 “The Math Monologue.” This standard is all about self-talk: equipping students with the internal math monologue rich enough to guide them through the problem and any obstacles they may encounter.

Overarching Habits of Mind - $500 This mathematical practice requires the teacher to provide time for and facilitate student discussion of solutions to problems.

Reasoning and Explaining - $100 This standard has to do with translations back and forth from the concrete world into the world of mathematics (where quantities and relations are expressed symbolically) and then back into the concrete world.

Reasoning and Explaining - $200 This standard calls for language that allows for comparisons to be made and to explain flawed reasoning.

Reasoning and Explaining - $300 This mathematical practice requires the teacher to provide many opportunities for students to talk, listen to, and/or read the conclusions and arguments of others.

Reasoning and Explaining - $400 This mathematical practice requires students to consider the units when interpreting answers in terms of problem solving contexts.

Reasoning and Explaining - $500 This mathematical practice requires students to decide if the arguments of others make sense and ask probing questions to clarify or improve the arguments.

Modeling and Using Tools - $100 This mathematical practice requires students to be sufficiently familiar with appropriate tools to decide when each tool is helpful, knowing both the benefit and limitations of each tool.

Modeling and Using Tools - $200 This mathematical practice requires students to use mathematical formulas and equations to solve real world problems.

Modeling and Using Tools - $300 This mathematical practice requires the teacher to provide a variety of contexts for students to apply the mathematics they have learned.

Modeling and Using Tools - $400 This standard requires the teacher to use a variety of appropriate tools (e.g. calculators, manipulatives) with students to strengthen the development of mathematical understanding.

Modeling and Using Tools - $500 This mathematical practice requires students to identify relevant external math resources (digital content on a website) and use them to pose or solve problems.

Seeing Structure and Generalizing - $100 This standard has to do with students having the vocabulary to discern and name mathematical patterns or structures, lest they be overlooked: We tend to overlook things for which we have no name!

Seeing Structure and Generalizing - $200 This mathematical practice requires the teacher to model and encourage students to look for their own shortcuts rather than simply telling them.

Seeing Structure and Generalizing - $300 This mathematical practice requires students to notice if calculations are repeated and look for both general methods and shortcuts.

Seeing Structure and Generalizing - $400 This mathematical practice requires students to look closely to discern a pattern or structure, recognizing that quantities can be represented in different ways.

Seeing Structure and Generalizing - $500 This mathematical practice requires the teacher to provide time and opportunities for students to discern and apply properties of mathematics in a variety of contexts.

SMP $100 Habits of minds that describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students.

SMP $200 The standards for mathematical practice compare with these standards in the Georgia Performance Standards.

SMP $300 The number of standards for mathematical practice

SMP $400 These standards are overarching habits of mind that should be seen during every mathematics lesson.

SMP $500 The person at the GADOE who said that the Standards for Mathematical Practice will be the game changer for mathematics instruction.

JEOPARDY! Slide Show Notes The font for the question & answer slides is “Enchanted;” a copy of this font in located in the “REAL Jeopardy Template” folder. (This font will need to be installed in the C:/WINDOWS/FONTS folder of the computer running the show.) In order to keep all of the sounds and fonts together, copy the entire “REAL Jeopardy Template” folder. To change the categories: – 1. Go to “Edit” and “Replace…” – 2. In the Find box, type Numbers/Operations (all caps) – 3. In the Replace box, type the category in all caps (for example, PRESIDENTS) – 4. Click Replace All... To use the Daily Double: – 1. Choose which dollar values to set as Daily Double – 2. Link that dollar value to one of the DD slides – 3. Link the arrow on the DD slide to the correct question slide (so dollar/category match)

Running the JEOPARDY! Slide Show On the game board with the categories on top, click on the desired dollar value. (The first game board is used only to blink in the dollar values like the show.) ICONS: – ? Go to the answer screen. – House Go back to the game board. – Right Arrow (on Daily Doubles) Go to the question screen. – Turned-up Arrow Reload question screen after incorrect guess
