Archeologist By Miss. Best

Why interested? I have always liked history and studying people of the past. I think it would be neat to be the first person to see something not seen for hundreds of years.

What do they do? Examine, recover, and preserve evidence and artifacts from past human cultures. They analyze skeletal remains and artifacts, such as tools, pottery, cave paintings, and ruins of buildings. They connect artifacts with information about past environments to learn about the history, customs, and living habits of people in earlier eras all over the world.

Job Outlook This field is expected to grow in coming years but only about 1,400 jobs in 10 years. Lots of competition. Need to be strong in science, writing investigative, critical thinking. Similar careers: Archivist, Economist, Historian,

What to know about career? Need a Master’s degree or Ph.D. less than this I could be an assistant or fieldworker. (6 or more years of college) Average salary $57,420

Background of career Became an area of study in mid-1800’s 1899 Columbia University first dept. for teaching it. At first only study small communities now looking at global world. Recognized that every society has own history need to preserve it.
